I’m going to regret this one…

After a brief conversion with Jez earlier I thought it might be a good idea to fulfil one of my cycling goals - 100 miles in one day, well, hopefully less than a day!

I have been cycling on and off for most of my life but started taking it a little more seriously in 2004 when I competed in a few time trials and used to ride the Sunday club runs most weeks. I was only an average rider, but that was enough for me.

After a couple of knee and shoulder problems, and two children later the cycling seemed to have taken a back seat - other than the odd slow ride out chauffering my excited three year old son around!

Last year Jez started riding his bike much more, cycling to work, evening rides and longer weekend rides. Inspired, I brushed off the racing bike to meet him for a ride in the summer and I got the bug again.

Now I’m riding to work a couple of days a week and getting fitness back it seems like the right time to set my sights on the 100 miles. The Great Nottinghamshire Bike Ride in June is the target. I’m trying to get Jez to ride it with me but he has his sights set on a slightly bigger task - ‘considering’ Lands End to John O’Groats.

I haven’t committed to the ride yet (and writing this entry in the blog is not confirmation!!) but watch this space.

Paul.
